Steiff offered the first postwar teddybears, made of mohair, as from 1949. These bears are still designed like their "ancestors", but they wear a white linen flag under the right arm that shows the inscription "Made in US-Zone Germany". This 6" small teddybear already has the button with the lettering in cursive handwriting, which was introduced in 1950. Therefore it belongs to the last teddybears of this era. All teddybears which were produced in this series from 1949 to 1950 are nowadays difficult to find. In many cases their typical "US-Zone"-flags were taken off so that they can be offered as bears that were produced before the war.
