Hugglets "Teddies 2008" in London A report by Jane Lynne Martin (Doodlebears) Quite possibly one of the most anticipated UK teddy bear exhibitions of the year, Hugglets Teddies 2008 was held on Sunday, September 14th. As has come to be expected from the superbly organised show, queues of enthusiastic teddy-bear lovers waited eagerly for the fair to open, the line of people trailing back as far as the eye could see. Visitors to the show travelled from all over the world, and from the moment they arrived at Kensington Town Hall, they were made welcome by the show organisers, Glenn and Irene Jackman. Glenn, ever-recognisable in his bright red jacket, greeted the guests with a smile and a large box of chocolates – a wonderful start to what is always a wonderful day. Once 11am rolled around and the doors were opened. The rush began and people streamed into the show. With over one hundred and seventy stands spread across four halls, Teddies 2008 boasts thousands of teddy bears from all over the world and a vast array of teddy bear making supplies. Exhibitors were kept busy all day, the atmosphere alive and bustling. There is something to please everyone at Hugglets, and sure enough people could be seen happily discussing their purchases – the bear-makers inspired as they sorted through bulging bags of mohair, and the collectors cheerfully embracing the newest member of their hug. Hugglets Teddy Bear Festivals are always a highlight of the exhibition calendar – supremely successful, expertly organised and a pleasure to attend, both as a visitor and an exhibitor: Teddies 2008 was a rewarding experience and a magnificent day was had by all.
